What are we aiming for?
We are looking for a Fuel Handling and Operations Support Technician who can undertake the overall fuel handling duties from fuel reception to by-product removal in a safe and efficient manner.
What will you be doing?
Reporting to the Fuel Team Supervisor, you will ensure safe fuel handling duties from fuel reception to ash handling along with general site operational support. In doing so also fostering an ethos of maximum plant reliability, flexibility and availability. This is to be achieved whilst attaining high standards of Quality, Health Safety & Environmental performance.
Furthermore, your tasks will be to:
- Operate the fuel handling and by-product plants with respect to safety, environmental and operational limits at all times, whilst maximising availability, reliability and efficiency
- To carry out day to day fuel, Ash, and General site delivery offloading duties
- Ensure day to day compliance with all aspects of the offloading systems including, daily routine lifting equipment inspections & on-site traffic management
- Assist the operations team to ensure that plant is in a fit and correct state for return to service following maintenance, outage or other prolonged shutdown
- Participate in and adhere to company/site HSEQ initiatives including the HSEQ forum activities
- To change working patterns where necessary in order to meet the needs of the business
- Able to safely operate a Counterbalance Forklift Truck, front Load mechanical shovel and grab crane.(training will be offered to suitable candidates)
- The role requires some physical labour, including the need to climb vertical ladders and multiple levels of stairs
- Some tasks may require working at height, this includes working from a Cherry picker (MEWP)
- Operate the site weighbridge as required to accurately record all deliveries to site
- Ensure all fuel handling departmental defects/works/routines are recorded within the sites CMMS (Computerised Maintenance Management system)
- Perform housekeeping on fuel storage and handling facilities, including external site areas.
Qualifications to succeed
The ideal candidate will ideally have an ONC/C&G/NVQ Level 3 qualification in a craft skill with a good level of practical Operational/Maintenance experience being preferable but not essential. Further a good understanding of all HSE aspects is a fundamental requirement, with IOSH working Safely a preferred requirement.
Our ideal candidate would have:
- Knowledge and experience of biomass or thermal power plant process and exposure to a heavy process plant maintenance activity is preferred
- Previous experience and qualifications in the use of Counterbalance FLT/MEWP’s/Telehandler and Overhead Crane is preferable, although training, as required, will be provided
- Experience in the use of traffic management and weighbridge facilities would be desirable
- A suitable level of fitness to climb vertical ladders and multiple levels of stairs
- Good verbal/written communication skills in English
- Good interpersonal skills, self-motivated, flexible and committed attitude
- Full UK Driving License

This role is a full-time role contracted for 40 hours per week, working on an alternating morning/afternoon shift rota Monday to Friday with some requirement for Saturday support.
Some occasional and ad-hoc national travel may be required.
