EC&I Technician, Hooton, UK

New build EFW plant located near Eastham, on the Wirral Peninsula in Merseyside.

Would you like to join a recently formed team on a new build large scale waste gasification power plant? Does joining the Operations and Maintenance (O&M) business to carry out routine and breakdown maintenance of the site EC&I equipment both directly and by managing / coordinating support services during the commercial operation of the facility sound interesting?

Your profile

We want you to be able to demonstrate a track record of success within the power or equivalent heavy engineering or industrial sector backed up with formal EC&I training and qualifications.

We wish for you to have experience of both routine maintenance, fault finding and defect rectification / breakdown repairs on HV / LV electrical equipment, instrumentation and control systems on industrial and or process equipment i.e. boilers, turbines, switchgear, starters, VFD's, pumps, fans, motors, drives, conveyors & control systems.

Summary of Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform troubleshooting, routine, preventative, scheduled and major repair maintenance on all power plant electrical, electronic, pneumatic, hydraulic, IT and Digital control systems. Including testing and calibration of EC&I systems and field equipment in accordance with OEM requirements and prudent industry practice
  •  Ensure that all EC&I activities, spares and information are correctly inputted into the CMMS and available for use
  •  Maintenance and servicing, repairing and history recording of all EC&I plant equipment
  •  Responsible for providing technical support to Operations
  •  Carrying out responsibilities as defined in the company’s safety rules and associated procedures
  •  Identifying and taking proactive measures to improve plant operational shortfalls and augment engineering solutions
  •  Supervise and develop the Contract Support Organisations to deliver scheduled, preventative, breakdown, planned maintenance and operational activities
  •  Quality control of designated work associated within the maintenance department
  •  Assist in outage planning, scheduling and co-ordination

Qualifications and Knowledge to succeed:

  • ONC/ City and Guilds/ NVQ level 3 in an Electrical or Controls and Instrumentation Engineering discipline with a high level of practical operational/maintenance experience/knowledge (Qualifications below this may be acceptable if accompanied by suitable experience)
  • A good understanding of all HSE aspects is a fundamental requirement, NEBOSH certification would be advantageous
  • Demonstrable experience in power generation industry operations and maintenance or exposure to heavy process plant maintenance activity
  • Working knowledge of power generation operations and maintenance associated with steam turbines, boilers, balance of plant, electrical generation and distribution up to 11Kv, plant control and instrumentation and computer aided Maintenance Management applications
  • Working knowledge of preventative maintenance/defect repair/ interrogation on: DCS/ SCADA, PLCs, Analogue & Digital Instrumentation and Transducers, Emissions Monitoring and other equipment related to the site
  • Full understanding of P&IDs and Loop Checking and ability to read Electrical Drawings
  • Familiarity with instrumentation calibration routines, both digital and analogue and ability to use calibration tools – 4 to 20mA and Druck, etc
  • Familiar with a number of Microsoft applications

This role is a full-time role contracted for 40 hours per week, working Monday to Friday, 8am to 4:30pm.

Some occasional and ad-hoc national travel may be required.
